Shawn Phillips – ‘sampled’ and Rapped!

I don’t know all the details yet, but Shawn’s manager says that Shawn never get any credit (or money) for this song. As Arlo, Shawn’s manager says: We’ve been hacked!

Here’s the tune with lyrics, which happen to be a true story.

  1. I’m not much of a music aficionado but I could surely enjoy the many levels of instrumentation in this beautiful song. Shawn’s voice is so clear that I didn’t even mind not having the lyrics. I actually got chills around 3:04. It was a sad song but what i couldn’t figure was how he died exactly. Was it self inflicted or actually lightning? It reminded me of my nephew and his struggle to stay within the living even as his brain was telling him it was time to go. His story is too sad to remember. Also, I think the sound of Shaawn’s voice was much clearer in the second one. Thank you for an enjoyable

    • The story is true as written. Casey was struck by lightning while chopping wood. Shawn is still friends with Casey’s wife and children. BTW, there is another song, “Julia’s Letters”, and Julia is a friend of mine, even though we haven’t met. She lives in San Antonio and Shawn sees her when he plays in that area.

      • Thanks for clarifying Sekan! I think it’s cool you know so many musicians.

        • My 10 year old granddaughter is going to be “Starring” in a fund raiser, and doing a solo with the “Joplin City Singers”. She is the only one in the choir that lost her home, so she will be doing an opening piece with country music star Jim Stafford. The fundraiser will be in Branson Missouri, and I wouldn’t miss this for the world!
I have a 1st cousin who is a Branson musician, and actually used to do the “warm-up” show for Stafford at the Jim Stafford theatre.
