THE ANDREWS SISTERS of Valeda
This photo is of my Mother’s family. Probably taken around 1950. Mother is second from left, white shirt. If Grandpa looks old, that’s because he was old. A Blacksmith by trade, I believe he was born in 1878. I’m surprised he didn’t have his Bible under one arm.
All the girls names start with a ‘B’. Left to right; Bonnie, Bernice, Betty, Billy, Barbara, Bertha (Bert), and front standing, Bonita. The grandparents are William “Bill” Andrews and Hester. Hester had been married once before, two children not shown; Lester and Neva.

OLD THINGS part 4
Does anybody remember when the Kansas City Chiefs were HEROES? I DO!
It’s been about 40 years, but the team I remember best was the 1970 Chiefs team. I was 10 years old, and the Chiefs won Super Bowl IV. Len Dawson, Bobby Bell and Buck Buchanan were all Hall Of Fame players.
The reason I remember these guys so well is I GOT TO MEET THEM!
Some of the 1970 Chiefs team played some of the 1970 Miami Dolphins, right here in Parsons Kansas. No, no…not in football, IN BASKETBALL! If you can imagine a lineman the size of Buck Buchanan going to the basket,…well, let me say that people GET OUT OF THE WAY! Best of all, my Dad was one of the referees at the game and I got locker-room access. After the game, I went in the locker-room and got all the autographs on the game program. I’ve been keeping this momento ever since. Chiefs or Dolphins fans, eat your hearts out.
Ain’t Bobby Bell (lower right) just the best looking guy you’ve ever seen? I wish Len Dawson had been there. Every kid I knew wanted to be Len Dawson when he grew up.
Here’s the entire roster. I’d bet a couple of bucks that even the most hardcore football fans have NEVER seen some of these autographs!
The Little Buddies
These are some spoiled creatures that live at my house. That’s Adeline Marie on the left, and Joseph Andrew on the right; Addy and Joey.
Addy is about 7 years old. My wife found her stray at our church on father’s day 7 years ago, and we took her in and got her ‘fixed’ right away.
Joey is about a year old now. I picked him up as a stray where I used to work. There was a momma dog with three pups hanging around out front of the office. An unthinking girl picked Joey up and carried him inside to show everybody. When she took him back outside, the momma and other pups were gone! He was so cute and likely to just get ran over on the highway. I couldn’t stand it; I clocked out and took him home!
They are both Daddy’s babies. I spoil them all the time. Just ask the wife and daughters!

Old Soldier Ink Sketch
This IS JUNK! – I was at an estate sale and the family had an old leather briefcase that had old papers in it. The former owner had been an accountant at one time and there were old ledgers and things stuffed in the briefcase. The family was going to throw away the whole lot, so I took it home and looked through it. This very old ink drawing was tucked into one of the ledgers. Being very brittle and torn around the edges, I had it framed into an old worn out frame to match. It appears to be either a WWI or early WWII soldier. It is signed “Cook”.
